Pune: ACB Arrests ST Depot Traffic Controller, ST Cooperative Bank Director While Accepting Rs 4 Lakh Bribe

Baramati, 25th July 2026: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested the traffic controller at the Baramati MIDC State Transport (ST) depot and a director of the ST Cooperative Bank Ltd., Mumbai, for allegedly accepting a bribe to clear a contractor’s pending bills.

The accused, identified as Anil Tukaram Bankar (51), was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 4 lakh from a complainant in a trap laid by the ACB on a road opposite the Baramati ST stand. The complaint was lodged by a 26-year-old contractor.

According to the ACB, the complainant had completed furniture renovation work at the Baramati branch of the ST Cooperative Bank. The total value of the work was Rs 48.60 lakh, of which Rs 40 lakh had already been paid. The remaining Rs 8.60 lakh, along with Rs 4.98 lakh for additional minor works, was pending.

Investigators said Bankar initially demanded a Rs 6 lakh bribe to facilitate the release of the pending payments and to submit the board-approved payment order to the bank. After the contractor approached the ACB, officials verified the complaint and laid a trap on Thursday. Bankar was apprehended in the presence of independent witnesses immediately after accepting Rs 4 lakh inside a four-wheeler.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Shirish Sardeshpande.
