Pune : Cops Must Accompany Injured Complainants to Hospital, Says Police Commissioner

Pune, 25th July 2026: In a move aimed at ensuring prompt medical care and improving the registration of assault cases, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has directed police personnel to personally escort injured complainants to government hospitals instead of merely issuing them a medical examination memo.

The order states that while injured persons visiting police stations to lodge complaints are routinely handed a medical memo and asked to visit a government hospital on their own, police personnel are expected to accompany them for medical examination and treatment. The commissioner noted that this procedure was often not being followed.

According to the order, in many cases injured persons fail to return to the police station after receiving treatment, resulting in complaints not being registered and accused in assault and attack cases escaping legal action.

The new directive mandates that whenever an injured person approaches a police station or outpost seeking assistance or to lodge a complaint, the officer or constable on duty must personally take the individual to a hospital for medical examination and treatment before completing the necessary legal formalities.

The commissioner has instructed all police station heads to ensure strict implementation of the order across Pune Police’s jurisdiction.
