Pune: Relative Assaults Trainee Doctor at Sassoon Hospital Over Video Recording
Pune, 26th July 2026: A trainee doctor was allegedly assaulted by a patient’s relative at Sassoon General Hospital after the doctor stopped him from recording the emergency treatment on his mobile phone, police said.
The Bundgarden Police have registered a case against Dhanraj Krishna Pillay (30), a resident of Ghorpade Gaon, following a complaint filed by the trainee doctor.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 10.45 am on Saturday after a patient was admitted to Sassoon Hospital for treatment. A trainee doctor in the medical ward began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as part of the emergency treatment.
During the treatment, the patient’s relative allegedly began recording the procedure on his mobile phone. The trainee doctor reportedly asked him to stop recording.
Police said the accused then allegedly created a commotion in the medical ward, verbally abused the doctor and assaulted him. Hospital staff intervened and restrained the accused before informing the police.
Based on the trainee doctor’s complaint, the Bundgarden Police registered a case against the accused for allegedly obstructing a public servant in the discharge of official duties and under provisions of the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act.
Assistant Police Inspector Arjun Mohite is conducting further investigation.
