Pune, 26th July 2026: A Pune-headquartered IT company, Tech Mahindra, has come under scrutiny after a woman employee at its Hyderabad office allegedly claimed that she was terminated while on leave to care for her sick 11-year-old daughter.

The employee has launched a protest outside the company’s office, demanding justice and alleging that she was denied adequate time to explain her absence before being dismissed.

According to her complaint, the woman had sought leave after her daughter fell ill. She alleged that her divisional manager instructed her to first log in to work and then wait for approval of her leave request. However, she claimed that the leave was not approved.

As calls from her daughter continued, the employee said she left the office to attend to her. She claimed that she informed her seniors about the situation and assured them that she would complete the pending work later.

While she was away from work caring for her daughter, the woman received an email from the company on July 21 informing her that her employment had been terminated, according to her account. She alleged that the company did not give her an opportunity to explain her absence before taking the action.

The employee also shared her allegations on social media, claiming that employees were subjected to what she described as an “inhumane” work environment. She alleged that employees were required to inform their seniors even when stepping away from their workstations and that permission was required to use the restroom.

The woman has also approached the police over the matter. She submitted a complaint at Dundigal Police Station in Hyderabad. Police have accepted the complaint and initiated a preliminary inquiry, according to the information available. Police have reportedly sought details from the company administration to determine whether there was any workplace harassment or violation of applicable rules.

The Forum for IT Employees (FITE) has also taken up the matter with the Women’s Commission. The employees’ organisation said it stood by the woman and urged the Labour Ministry to take serious note of the allegations. It also called upon the Women’s Commission to take appropriate action if violations are established.

The company’s response to the allegations was not available at the time of publication.
