Drainage Water Stagnation Near Pune Railway Station Parcel Office Causes Foul Smell, Commuters Face Hardship

Pune, 27th July 2026: Stagnant drainage water near the Parcel Gate of Pune Railway Station, close to the Sai Baba Mandir and the bus stand, has been causing severe inconvenience to commuters and railway staff for the past eight to ten days. The accumulated wastewater outside the Parcel Office has created an unhygienic environment, with a strong foul smell making it difficult for pedestrians to pass through the area.
The waterlogging has reportedly affected daily movement around the busy parcel office, where hundreds of people, including parcel workers, transporters, passengers and visitors, pass through every day. Residents and commuters have raised concerns over the lack of immediate action to clear the stagnant drainage water.
Local citizen Pramod Patil expressed his concern over the issue.
“Drainage water has been stagnating near the Parcel Office for the last eight to ten days. The foul smell has become unbearable, and it is extremely difficult for people to walk through the area. Authorities should immediately clear the water and ensure proper drainage so that commuters do not continue to suffer,” said Pramod Patil.
Another commuter, Sunil Jadhav, also highlighted the inconvenience caused by the waterlogging.
“This is one of the busiest areas near Pune Railway Station, yet people are forced to walk through dirty stagnant water every day. Such conditions pose health risks and create a poor impression for passengers visiting the city,” he said.
Responding to the issue, Pune Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) stated that the situation has largely been addressed.
“The rainwater in the circulating area near the Parcel Office has been drained. Only a small amount of water remains, and it will disappear shortly,” the DRM said.
Despite the railway administration’s assurance, commuters have urged the authorities to ensure complete clearance of the stagnant water and take preventive measures to avoid similar problems during the ongoing monsoon season. They have also requested regular maintenance of the drainage system around Pune Railway Station to maintain hygiene and provide safe access for passengers and visitors.
