113 Landlords in Pune Face Police Action—Here’s What They Failed to Do

Pune, 8th August 2026: Pune police have taken action against 113 landlords and paying-guest (PG) accommodation operators for allegedly failing to furnish tenant details to the police.
The action was initiated under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for alleged violation of orders issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Police said the special drive was undertaken to strengthen public safety in the city.
“The drive will continue and will be intensified further,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Dr Prashant Amrutkar said.
Police said a large number of people from other states and districts of Maharashtra come to Pune for education, employment and business. Many live in rented houses, flats, chawls, PG accommodation or shared lodgings.
During verification, police found that several landlords and PG operators had accommodated tenants without executing the required rental agreements or furnishing their details to the respective police stations.
The campaign was conducted under the guidance of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Darade and was led by DCP Dr Prashant Amrutkar.
Police officers and personnel from Special Branch divisions 1 to 7, assisted by teams from the respective police stations, collected tenant information and checked whether rental agreements had been executed and the required details submitted to the police.
Action was taken in Kothrud, Deccan, Ambegaon, Narhe, Chatushrungi, Khadki, Lonikand, Loni Kalbhor and other parts of Pune.
Police said information regarding e-leave-and-licence agreements registered online through the IGR’s i-SARITA platform is available through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).
Landlords can also submit tenant and PG details online through the “Tenant/Paying Guest Information Request” facility under Citizen Portal services on the Pune Police website.
Pune police appealed to landlords and PG operators to furnish tenant details to the jurisdictional police station without fail.
