Pune: Vada Pav Stall Argument Ends in Death of 28-Year-Old Man
Pune, 11th August 2026: A 28-year-old man died following an alleged assault triggered by a minor argument after the two men accidentally stepped on each other’s feet while buying vada pav at Duly Maruti Chowk in Pune’s Ganesh Peth area.
The police have registered a case against the alleged attacker, identified as Vaibhav Salunkhe. The deceased has been identified as Shivam Pardeshi, 28.
According to the police, both Shivam and Vaibhav lived in the Ganesh Peth area and knew each other by face. On the day of the incident, both had gone to a vada pav stall at Duly Maruti Chowk to buy food. While standing in the crowd, they accidentally stepped on each other’s feet, leading to an argument.
The argument escalated, and Vaibhav allegedly punched Shivam repeatedly in the chest in a fit of rage. Shivam suffered internal bleeding due to the assault and was rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, he died while undergoing treatment.
Police said both the accused and the deceased came from modest families. Vaibhav works as an accountant with a builder, while the fathers of both men work as autorickshaw drivers.
The incident has caused shock and anger among residents of Ganesh Peth, with locals expressing concern over a fatal assault allegedly triggered by a seemingly trivial dispute and a moment of anger. Police have launched a further investigation into the case.
