Tiranga Yatra on Pune’s FC Road: Fadnavis Calls on Youth to Build a Developed Maharashtra
Shivajinagar, 11th August 2026: Pune’s youth took to the streets carrying the national flag during a grand Tiranga Yatra on FC Road on Tuesday, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis calling upon citizens to uphold the honour, dignity and pride of the Tricolour while fulfilling their constitutional duties and responsibilities.
The Tiranga Yatra, organised by the Tiranga Gaurav Samiti, was held as part of programmes commemorating the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the country’s journey towards the centenary of Independence. The procession began near Lalit Mahal Hotel at Shivajinagar and concluded at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Udyan.
A large number of youngsters participated in the procession, turning FC Road into a sea of Tricolours. BJP state president Ravindra Chavan, minister Chandrakant Patil, minister of state Madhuri Misal, Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge, Deputy Mayor Parshuram Wadekar, BJP state general secretary Rajesh Pandey, Pune city president Dheeraj Ghate, Shatrughna Kate, MLAs, corporators and party functionaries were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Fadnavis said the Tricolour was not merely a national flag but an integral part of the lives and values of Indians.
“While taking the Tricolour in our hands, we must also remember the rights, duties and responsibilities given to us by the Constitution,” he said.
He said the youth had come together to send a message that the honour and pride of the national flag would never be allowed to be lowered.
“This is the youth of India and the youth of Pune. The youth of the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has come onto the streets carrying the Tricolour. We will never let this Tricolour bow,” Fadnavis said.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for citizens to carry the Tricolour between August 9 and 15 as an expression of patriotism, Fadnavis recalled the Quit India Movement launched on August 9, 1942, and the sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle.
He also highlighted Pune’s contribution to the freedom movement, recalling figures including Lokmanya Tilak, Krantiguru Lahuji Vastad Salve and Vasudev Balwant Phadke.
“Pune is the land of Jijau, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Lokmanya Tilak, Krantiguru Lahuji Vastad Salve and Vasudev Balwant Phadke. As long as the descendants of Chhatrapati’s Mavlas stand on this land, the Tricolour will continue to fly with pride,” he said.
Fadnavis also paid tribute to soldiers who have sacrificed their lives while defending the Tricolour along the country’s borders, saying the present generation has a responsibility to preserve the honour of the national flag.
Calling Pune a city of education, innovation, industry and cultural strength, he said the city’s young population would play a crucial role in building a stronger India.
“Over the next 20 years, we have to build a developed Maharashtra as part of the vision of a developed India. We have to create a Maharashtra that gives wings to the dreams of its youth and strengthens their aspirations,” he said.
Fadnavis expressed confidence in Pune’s youth and said their energy would help India move forward. Referring to India’s economic growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, he said the country had greater opportunities ahead and called for the Tricolour to be carried with pride across the nation.
