Two Killed After Speeding Container Rams SUV Making U-Turn on Pune-Ahilyanagar Highway Near Shirur
Pune, 12th August 2026: Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle accident on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway near Shirur on Wednesday evening after a speeding container truck rammed an SUV attempting to take a U-turn, triggering a chain collision involving a two-wheeler and a bus.
The accident occurred around 5pm near the divider at Pashan Mala on the bypass road outside Shirur city. The deceased have been identified as entrepreneur Kishor Namdev Yadav, 38, from Wadegavhan in Parner taluka of Ahilyanagar district, and motorcyclist Prathamesh Prakash Lad, 30, a resident of Sundar Srushti in Shirur and originally from Kundal in Palus taluka of Sangli district.
According to police and eyewitnesses, Yadav had come to Shirur in his Ford Endeavour (MH 12 SU 5589) for work. After completing his work, he went to meet friends along the bypass and was returning towards Wadegavhan. He attempted to take a U-turn on the Pune-Ahmednagar road near Hotel Sangram.
Lad was waiting on his motorcycle (MH 10 DU 5052) near the road divider at the time. As Yadav slowed down to take the U-turn, a speeding container approaching from behind rammed into the Endeavour. The impact pushed the SUV into the stationary motorcycle and sent both vehicles towards the opposite side of the road.
At the same time, a Pune-Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Shivai bus (MH 49 BZ 8060), travelling in the opposite direction towards Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, collided with the Endeavour and motorcycle.
The front portion of the Endeavour was badly damaged in the crash, killing Yadav on the spot. Lad was crushed between the Endeavour and the bus and also died at the scene.
The collision involved multiple vehicles and created a loud impact, causing panic among people in the area. The accident also resulted in severe traffic congestion on the Pune-Ahilyanagar highway in the Shirur area.
Yadav was the husband of Wadegavhan sarpanch Priyanka Yadav and was reportedly a prominent figure in the political circles of Parner taluka. He had established himself as an entrepreneur in a relatively short period and had a large circle of friends. Following the accident, a large number of his friends and supporters reached the spot, further adding to the crowd and traffic congestion.
Lad, who was originally from Sangli district, worked for an IT company and was residing in Shirur.
The container truck that allegedly rammed into the Endeavour fled the spot without stopping after the accident. A large number of vehicles and onlookers gathered at the site, worsening the traffic situation.
Shirur police inspector Vinod Patil and sub-inspector Govind Khating, along with a police team, rushed to the spot and worked to clear the traffic. Police were registering a case at the Shirur police station late Tuesday night.
