Pune: 20 Industries Plan to Leave Chakan MIDC Over Traffic, Poor Infrastructure

Pune, 12th August 2026: Around 20 small-scale industrial units operating in the Chakan MIDC area near Pune have decided to relocate their operations to the Khandala MIDC area, citing prolonged traffic jams and inadequate infrastructure that they say are affecting employees, production and business operations.

The decision was announced at a press conference on Wednesday, a day after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis acknowledged that the problems faced by industries in Chakan MIDC were genuine and said the government would undertake infrastructure upgrades after the monsoon.

Industrialists said traffic congestion in and around Chakan MIDC has reached a point where companies are struggling to ensure that employees and goods reach factories on time.

“Employees are finding it increasingly difficult to reach their workplaces on time because of the traffic situation. We have repeatedly brought the issue to the government’s attention, but there has been little visible improvement,” said one of the industrialists.

Another factory owner said traffic snarls can continue for four to five hours, disrupting regular operations.

“The prolonged congestion is affecting production schedules and resulting in financial losses for companies,” he said.

According to the industrialists, around 20 unit owners have now decided to move to Khandala MIDC, where they believe road connectivity and other infrastructure are comparatively better.

They said repeated assurances from authorities have not yet translated into noticeable improvements on the ground.

“We hope the government takes our concerns seriously and implements concrete measures to address the traffic and infrastructure problems in Chakan MIDC,” an industrialist said.
Authorities initiate measures to address Chakan, Talegaon issues
Meanwhile, officials said the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the Pune district administration have initiated steps to address traffic and infrastructure-related problems in the Chakan and Talegaon industrial belts.

During a review meeting, MIDC CEO Deependra Singh Kushwah and Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi directed the concerned departments to undertake immediate measures, including road repairs, improving parking arrangements and removing encroachments.

Officials were also instructed to ensure that pending repairs on the national highway are completed by August 31.

The district administration is also planning to work with town planning engineers to formulate measures aimed at ensuring more sustainable development of the industrial areas.
Fadnavis promises infrastructure upgrade
The concerns of industrialists came a day after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the problems in Chakan MIDC were “very genuine”.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Fadnavis said a meeting had already been held to discuss the issues and indicated that infrastructure improvement work would be undertaken after the monsoon.

The latest development has brought renewed focus on the long-standing traffic and infrastructure challenges faced by industries in the Chakan-Talegaon industrial corridor, one of the key manufacturing hubs in the Pune region.
