Pune: Chakan-Talegaon Road Projects Get Priority as MIDC and District Administration Launch Coordinated Action; Phase 2-5 Link Deadline Advanced to December

Chakan, 14th August 2026: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and Pune district administration have initiated a coordinated drive to address potholes, traffic congestion, encroachments and infrastructure gaps in the Chakan-Talegaon industrial belt, one of Maharashtra’s key manufacturing hubs.

A high-level coordination meeting was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of MIDC CEO Deependra Singh Kushwah and Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, following concerns raised by residents, workers and industries over deteriorating roads and traffic management.

The meeting, held on the directions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, was attended by senior officials from MIDC, Pune district administration, PMRDA, NHAI, PWD, MSRDC, Zilla Parishad and other agencies.

Officials noted that the road network in and around the industrial belt is spread across multiple agencies, making inter-agency coordination essential for road maintenance and infrastructure development. The network includes 114.06 km under MIDC, 63.20 km under PWD, 53.20 km under MSIDC, 41 km under MSRDC, 40.74 km under PMRDA and 29.92 km under NHAI.

Immediate measures discussed included speeding up pothole repairs, removing encroachments, identifying no-parking zones, improving traffic management, creating designated parking spaces and completing ongoing infrastructure projects on priority.

Officials also reviewed upcoming infrastructure projects and broader urban planning requirements for the industrial region. The meeting also discussed developing established industrial areas around Pune, including Chakan, as dedicated industrial townships, in line with the vision announced by the chief minister.

Road upgrades reviewed

On Thursday, Kushwah and Dudi inspected the NH-548D Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur corridor, covering around 53.20 km, to assess road and traffic-related issues and review the proposed capacity augmentation.

The existing two-lane road is proposed to be upgraded with a combination of four-lane at-grade and four-lane elevated stretches between Talegaon and Chakan, and a six-lane at-grade road between Chakan and Shikrapur.

However, officials said commuters and industries cannot be expected to wait until the proposed upgrades are completed. Agencies will therefore continue maintenance of the existing road, including prompt pothole repairs.

The administration is also working to streamline parking along the corridor, including encouraging heavy vehicles to use designated parking facilities at the truck terminal.

The officials also reviewed the NH-60 Nashik Phata-Khed-Rajgurunagar corridor, which spans around 29.92 km. Plans for increasing its lane capacity were discussed, with emphasis on expediting the work while maintaining traffic flow during construction.

Chakan Phase 2-5 link road deadline advanced

Kushwah and Dudi also inspected the road connecting Chakan Phase 2 and Phase 5, an important link between the Talegaon and Chakan industrial corridors towards Nashik Phata.

The road is critical for the movement of industrial vehicles, workers and goods between the two industrial belts. During the inspection, officials reviewed the progress of ongoing work and directed agencies to accelerate execution.

The project, originally scheduled for completion by March 2027, has now been given a revised priority deadline of December 2026.

MIDC said the focus would be on faster execution, inter-agency coordination and ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace with the rapid industrial growth of Chakan and Talegaon.
