Pune: Kali Bari Dehu Road to Celebrate 53rd Durga Puja with Purulia Chau-Themed Pandal
Pimpri Chinchwad, 17th August 2026: Kali Bari Dehu Road, under the Bangiya Krishti Parishad (BKP), is set to celebrate its 53rd Durga Puja in 2026, continuing a five-decade-long tradition of bringing Bengal’s culture and traditions to Pune and the Pimpri-Chinchwad region.
This year, the Puja will feature a unique Purulia Chau-themed pandal, inspired by the vibrant folk traditions and cultural heritage of Purulia in West Bengal. Through the pandal and a series of cultural programmes, the organisers aim to introduce visitors to Bengal’s folk traditions while creating an experience that reflects the spirit of “Bengal in Pune.”
The celebrations will begin with Khuti Puja on August 23, 2026. Khuti Puja marks the ceremonial beginning of pandal construction, traditionally involving the placement of the first bamboo pole in the ground as the foundation of the structure.
This will be followed by Mahalaya Puja on October 10, marking the beginning of Devipaksha and heralding the arrival of Maa Durga.
Seven Days of Puja and Cultural Celebrations
The main Durga Puja celebrations will be held from October 15 to 21, 2026, featuring traditional Puja rituals, Aarti, Maha Bhog, Anando Mela and a series of cultural programmes.
October 15 – Panchami: Panchami Puja and Anando Mela
October 16 – Shashthi: Inauguration of Durga Puja and Shashthi Puja
October 17 – Saptami: Saptami Puja, Maha Bhog and cultural events
October 18 – Ashtami: Ashtami Puja, Maha Bhog and cultural events

October 21 – Dussehra and Visarjan: The celebrations will conclude with Dussehra and the ceremonial Visarjan of Maa Durga.
Speaking about this year’s celebrations, the organising committee said, “Our 53rd Durga Puja is a celebration of our journey, our community and our commitment to keeping Bengali culture and traditions alive in Pune. Through the Purulia Chau theme, we hope to introduce visitors to the rich folk heritage of Purulia and create an experience that brings the spirit of Bengal to Pune.”
Along with the traditional Puja rituals, visitors will be able to experience Bengali cuisine, Maha Bhog, music, dance and cultural performances, making the celebrations a cultural gathering for the wider Pune community.
The organisers have invited members of the media, cultural enthusiasts and people from across Pune to join the celebrations and experience the faith, culture, food and community spirit of Bengal at Kali Bari Dehu Road.
