Pune, 21st August 2026: With Ganeshotsav 2026 approaching, Pune Police have begun preparations to regulate noise pollution during the festival. On Thursday, the police conducted a practical sound test of various DJ and sound systems at the Pune Police Commissionerate.

The test was aimed at understanding the sound levels generated by different types of equipment, assessing speaker capacities and identifying components that can significantly increase noise levels during Ganeshotsav processions.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Darade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Prashant Amrutkar and Assistant Commissioner Vivek Pawar attended the demonstration. Representatives of the Pune Sound Association and sound-system operators were also present.

During the demonstration, police tested different combinations of bass and top speakers and measured the resulting sound intensity using a decibel meter.

Officials also examined the technical specifications and capacities of different sound systems to understand how various configurations and modifications affect overall noise levels.

A major focus of the test was the ‘Pressure Mid’, an equipment component used in some speaker systems. According to sound professionals present during the demonstration, the equipment can substantially increase sound intensity and produce excessively loud and harsh audio when used in certain configurations.

The Pune Sound Association has also opposed the use of unauthorised equipment that can contribute to excessive noise pollution.

The sound test was conducted with the objective of ensuring compliance with the prescribed decibel limits under noise pollution control regulations and environmental laws.

Based on the findings, police officials are expected to assess different sound-system configurations and modifications before deciding on further guidelines and enforcement measures for Ganeshotsav 2026.

The initiative is intended to allow Ganeshotsav celebrations to continue while ensuring that sound levels remain within permissible limits and minimising the impact of excessive noise on residents and the public.
