Chakan, 22nd August 2026: The traffic administration has stepped up action against unauthorised parking of heavy vehicles along both sides of the Chakan-Talegaon National Highway, amid growing traffic congestion in the industrial belt.

More than 50 heavy vehicles have been towed and shifted to other locations since Friday, while challans are also being issued to the vehicle owners, said Vikrant Deshmukh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Branch.

The action follows directions issued a few days ago by Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi and Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey to take immediate measures to address traffic congestion, poor road conditions, unauthorised parking and encroachments in the Chakan-Talegaon industrial area.

The industrial belt houses a large number of companies and factories and witnesses the daily movement of thousands of workers as well as heavy commercial vehicles. The high volume of traffic has led to congestion at several locations, particularly due to vehicles being parked along the highway.

Deshmukh said the drive has been launched to ease the congestion and improve traffic movement. The administration is also making local appeals to heavy vehicle operators to avoid unauthorised parking and cooperate with the enforcement drive.

Dudi has said that vacant MIDC lands and gayran (grazing lands) have been made available for heavy vehicles parking free of cost in the area and the drivers were urged to park their vehicles there instead of parking them illegally along the road.
