Defence Land Cleared in Pune’s Lullanagar; Police Deployed During Major Drive
Camp, 25th August 2026: A massive anti-encroachment drive was carried out on Tuesday on Defence land in the Lullanagar area of Pune, with the Defence Estates Office (DEO) leading the operation to clear alleged unauthorised occupation.
The action was undertaken on a large tract of Defence land, where structures and other forms of alleged encroachment were removed as part of the drive.
Officials from the Defence Estates Office, Pune Circle were present during the operation. Personnel from the Wanawadi Police Station of the Pune City Police were also deployed at the site to provide security and maintain law and order during the action.
The drive comes days after the Defence Estates Office issued a notice to alleged unauthorised occupants and encroachers of A-2 category Defence land recorded under GLR Survey No. 828 in Pune Cantonment. The notice, dated August 14, 2026, directed alleged occupants to remove unauthorised occupation and vacate the Defence land.
The notice had referred to an earlier communication issued in July and a request from the MES Contractors Association and others seeking additional time to vacate the premises.
The Defence Estates Office is responsible for the administration and management of Defence land and maintenance of General Land Register records. The organisation also has statutory responsibilities concerning unauthorised occupation of Defence land.
The exact extent of land cleared and the number of structures removed during Tuesday’s operation were not immediately available. Further details are awaited from the Defence Estates authorities.
Note: This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
