Pune: Civic Body Approves Rs 577 Crore Waste Processing Project Amid Opposition

Pune, 25th August 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a ₹577 crore proposal to establish a 500-metric-tonne-capacity waste processing project at Uruli Devachi-Fursungi. The proposal, which aims to address the long-standing waste management issue in the area, was approved by a majority during the PMC General Body meeting on Tuesday.

The project has been awarded to Bhumi Green. The decision, however, faced strong opposition from opposition members, who raised questions regarding the tender conditions, the preference allegedly given to a particular company and the financial burden the project could place on the civic body.

Opposition members submitted three amendments seeking changes to the proposal. However, all three were rejected by a vote of 109 against 36 after the civic administration provided clarifications on the issues raised.

The approved project is intended to provide a long-term solution to waste management in Uruli Devachi and Fursungi, where waste disposal has remained a major civic concern.

While the ruling BJP’s majority enabled the proposal to pass, opposition members continued to question the financial implications and tender process associated with the project.
