Pune: Police Warn of Seizure of High-Decibel DJ Systems During Ganeshotsav

Pune, 25th August 2026: Pune Police have announced strict action against the use of high-decibel DJ systems during the upcoming Ganeshotsav and Dahi Handi celebrations. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said DJ systems found violating prescribed noise limits could be seized immediately.

The announcement was made during a meeting held at the Pune Municipal Corporation as part of preparations for the upcoming Ganeshotsav. Officials from various civic departments, the police administration and representatives of Ganesh mandals attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Ganesh mandals and festival organisers sought relaxation of restrictions to allow celebrations to be conducted without excessive curbs. However, the police made it clear that there would be no relaxation regarding noise pollution.

Strict Action Against High-Volume DJs

Police said high-decibel sound systems, including plaza and mid-pressure DJ systems, will not be permitted if they violate the prescribed noise limits.

Authorities are also working on guidelines governing the use of loudspeakers and DJ systems. These will specify permissible sound levels and regulate the use of bass and top speakers.

Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said organisers violating the prescribed limits would face immediate action, including seizure of DJ equipment.

“We have no objection to celebrating the festival, but high-decibel sound that causes noise pollution will not be permitted. Plaza and pressure horns will remain prohibited. If the prescribed noise limits are violated, the DJ equipment will be seized,” Kumar said.

Focus on Peaceful Celebrations

Police have appealed to Ganesh mandals and organisers to celebrate the festivals with enthusiasm while ensuring that other residents are not inconvenienced.

Officials have particularly urged organisers to remain mindful of senior citizens, children, patients and students, who may be adversely affected by excessive noise.

With the festive season approaching, Pune Police are expected to closely monitor sound levels and take action against organisers who violate noise pollution regulations.
