Aagomoni Prabasi Sangha Brings Seven Days of Bengali Durga Puja Festivities to Pune

Pashan, 26th August 2026: Pune is set to witness an extended celebration of Bengali culture, tradition and devotion this Durga Puja, with Aagomoni Prabasi Sangha organising a seven-day Durga Puja Mahautsav from October 15 to 21 at Gyandeep Garden Mangal Karyalaya in Pashan.

The celebration will bring together traditional rituals, cultural performances, Bengali cuisine, shopping and entertainment, offering residents of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad an opportunity to experience the festive atmosphere associated with Durga Puja in Bengal.

Why the 2026 celebration will be different

Aagomoni Prabasi Sangha traditionally observes Durga Puja over six days. This year, however, the festivities have been extended to seven days, with Maha Ashtami being observed over two days as per the Panchang, according to the organisers.

The additional day is expected to give visitors more time to participate in the rituals and cultural programmes while experiencing the community celebration.

Traditional Durga idol to be a major attraction

One of the highlights of this year’s celebration will be the “Ek Chale Eloo Keshi” Pratima, reflecting a distinctive traditional style of Bengali Durga idol-making.

The organisers are also planning a festive setting inspired by the atmosphere of Kolkata’s Durga Puja celebrations. Kolkata-style lighting at the entrance and gate, a large LED display and extensive décor will form part of the overall ambience.

Four days of Bhog Prasad

Food will be an important part of the celebration, with Bhog Prasad scheduled to be distributed on four consecutive days.

October 17 – Maha Saptami
October 18 – Maha Ashtami Day 1
October 19 – Maha Ashtami Day 2
October 20 – Maha Navami

Alongside the traditional bhog, food stalls will offer visitors a variety of culinary options, adding a gastronomic element to the festival.

Music, performances and cultural programmes

The evenings will feature cultural and entertainment programmes involving artists and performers from Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune.

The programmes are expected to showcase Bengali music, dance and other forms of cultural expression while also providing entertainment for families and visitors attending the Puja.

A flea market will add another attraction, allowing visitors to combine the festival experience with shopping.

Designed as a family-friendly celebration

The organisers are positioning the Mahautsav as an inclusive community celebration rather than an event limited to the Bengali community.

The Puja pandal will be pet-friendly, while parking facilities are planned for around 400 cars, along with space for two-wheelers.
A dedicated area for stalls and branding, along with a large LED display, will also be part of the venue arrangements.

Open to everyone

The seven-day celebration will be open to visitors from all communities and backgrounds, with no entry fee.

For Pune’s Bengali community and others interested in experiencing the cultural traditions of Durga Puja, the event is expected to offer a mix of religious rituals, traditional art, food, music and community celebrations.
