Pune Police Constable Arrested, Suspended After Driver Injured While Intervening in Family Row
Pune, 29th August 2026: A 42-year-old Pune police constable was arrested and suspended after allegedly assaulting a driver who tried to intervene when the cop was arguing with and assaulting his family members, police said.
The accused, Amit Suresh Jadhav (42), a resident of Bhawani Peth, was arrested on August 21 after a complaint was lodged by Shubham Chandrakant Bhosale (27), a resident of Mangalwar Peth. Deputy commissioner of police P R Patil suspended Jadhav for allegedly engaging in indecent conduct that tarnished the image of the police force.
According to police, Bhosale, a driver, had taken Jadhav, his wife, mother, sister and two children in an Ertiga for a pilgrimage on May 31. After visiting several places, the group stopped near the Karmala ST bus stand for tea and snacks when Jadhav allegedly became angry and abused his wife, mother and sister.
When Jadhav allegedly assaulted his wife, Bhosale and his friend tried to intervene and stop the quarrel. Jadhav allegedly attacked them with a stick, leaving Bhosale unconscious with a head injury and bleeding.
Bhosale was initially admitted to a hospital in Karmala and was later shifted to a Pune hospital after his condition became critical. He was discharged after 41 days of treatment on July 11.
His family subsequently admitted him to a neuro care centre in Karvenagar. Bhosale gradually regained consciousness during treatment.
The Koregaon Park police recorded his statement on August 18 and forwarded it to the Karmala police. Based on his statement, Karmala police registered a case against Jadhav on August 21 and arrested him.
