Vishwakarma University School of Pharmacy Plants 100 Native Trees at Diveghat

Kondhwa, 29th August 2026: The School of Pharmacy at Vishwakarma University, Pune, organised a tree plantation drive at Diveghat, with faculty members and students planting 100 native trees as part of an environmental sustainability initiative.
The plantation drive was held on 23rd August and saw active participation from students of the B.Pharmacy and M.Pharmacy programmes along with faculty members. During the activity, participants were guided on the importance of selecting, planting and nurturing native tree species to support local ecosystems and strengthen green cover.
The initiative was aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). The programme aimed to promote environmental awareness among students while encouraging them to actively contribute towards sustainability and community well-being.
Dr Makarand Puri, Dean of Vishwakarma University School of Pharmacy, said that environmental sustainability needs to be promoted through practical action.
“Environmental sustainability is a value we must nurture through action. Initiatives such as this provide our students an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the environment while developing a deeper sense of social responsibility,” he said.
The tree plantation drive was coordinated by Prof Yogita Shinde, Prof Archana Shaha and Dr Dipali Talele.
University officials said the initiative is part of the School of Pharmacy’s continued efforts to involve students in socially responsible activities and encourage greater participation in initiatives focused on environmental conservation and the well-being of the wider community.
