Pune RTO Begins Monitoring Auto Meter Recalibration After Fare Hike
Pune, 2nd September 2026: The revised autorickshaw fares have come into effect across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad from September 1, with the minimum fare for the first 1.5 km increasing from ₹25 to ₹30. The fare for every subsequent kilometre has also been raised from ₹17 to ₹20.
Following the fare revision, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has started monitoring the recalibration of autorickshaw meters. Drivers have been given six months to complete the process.
During this transition period, the official tariff card issued by the RTO will be used to determine the applicable fare where meters have not yet been recalibrated. The RTO said it will conduct random checks across Pune to verify whether meters have been updated and whether passengers are being charged according to the revised rates.
According to Pune Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale, the meter calibration process will continue for six months. RTO teams will check meter calibration, fare collection and compliance with the revised tariff.
Officials will also monitor complaints related to overcharging, refusal of fares and differences between the fare displayed on meters and the approved tariff. Drivers are required to display the applicable fare information as part of the revised system.
The fare revision was approved by the Regional Transport Authority following demands from autorickshaw operators citing rising operating costs. Drivers have said that higher expenses for CNG, servicing, spare parts and other costs had increased the cost of running their vehicles.
For passengers, the revised minimum fare means an increase of ₹5 for short-distance journeys, while the per-kilometre charge beyond the first 1.5 km has increased by ₹3.
The RTO’s six-month monitoring period is intended to ensure that the revised fares are implemented uniformly while meters across the city’s autorickshaw fleet are recalibrated.
