Pune Traffic Update: Diversions in Bavdhan on September 5 for UCI Cycling Championship Route Inspection
Bavdhan, 4th September 2026: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police have announced temporary traffic diversions in parts of Bavdhan on Saturday, September 5, during an inspection of the proposed route for the 2032 UCI Road World Championships.
The Maharashtra government and the Pune district administration are submitting Pune’s candidature to host the international cycling championship. As part of the process, a Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) delegation is visiting Pune from September 4 to 6 and will inspect the proposed route on September 5.
Traffic on three roads leading towards Radha Chowk will be diverted between 9 am and 1 pm, depending on requirements, to prevent congestion and facilitate the route inspection.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikrant Deshmukh of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Branch said, “Temporary traffic diversions will be implemented on the specified roads between 9 am and 1 pm on September 5, as required. Motorists should use the designated alternative routes and cooperate with traffic police personnel.”
Vehicles travelling towards Radha Chowk from the Nande-Balewadi-Mhalunge road will not be permitted to continue along the regular route. Motorists must instead turn at Shitaladevi Nagar, take Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium Road, pass PICT School and proceed to their destinations via the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway.
“Vehicles travelling from Nande, Balewadi and Mhalunge towards Radha Chowk should take the diversion from Shitaladevi Nagar and use Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium Road before joining the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway,” DCP Deshmukh said.
All types of vehicles travelling from Bandara Bhavan towards Radha Chowk through the service road will also be restricted. Motorists must turn near the Jati showroom and use the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway to reach their destinations.
“Motorists approaching Radha Chowk from Bandara Bhavan through the service road should turn near the Jati showroom and proceed via the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway,” he said.
Similarly, vehicles will not be allowed to travel towards Radha Chowk through the Orchid Hotel service road. They must turn near Orchid Hotel and proceed to their destinations via the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway.
“Vehicles using the Orchid Hotel service road should take a turn near the hotel and use the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway instead of proceeding towards Radha Chowk,” DCP Deshmukh said.
Traffic police will install appropriate barricades and directional signs to guide motorists at the diversion points. Police have appealed to road users to follow the signs, take the designated alternative routes and cooperate with personnel deployed in the area.
