Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad Power Outage After Fire at Chinchwad 220 kV Substation

Chinchwad, 6th September 2026: A fire broke out at the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) 220 kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) substation in Chinchwad following a technical fault around 12.25 pm on Sunday, disrupting electricity supply across several parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

According to MSETCL officials, an explosion involving a 22 kV current transformer (CT) and breaker at the substation triggered the fire. A large plume of smoke was seen rising from the facility following the incident.

The fire has been brought under control. However, several 22 kV high-voltage feeders supplying electricity to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) were affected by the fault, resulting in power outages across a large part of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Areas affected include the Pimpri-Chinchwad Pradhikaran area, Ravet, Kalewadi, Wakad, Pimple Gurav, Pimple Nilakh, Sangvi, Punawale and Tathawade, among other neighbouring areas.

MSETCL officials are working on a war footing to restore power supply from the unaffected sections of the substation while keeping the damaged portion shut.

Meanwhile, MSEDCL teams are working to restore electricity through alternative supply routes wherever possible and minimise the duration of the outage.

Officials said restoration work is underway and efforts are being made to normalise the power supply at the earliest.
