Pune Police File 10 BNS Cases, Begin Prosecution in 116 Dahi Handi-Related Matters
Pune, 7th September 2026: Pune city police registered 10 cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated the process of filing prosecutions in 116 matters during enforcement action related to Dahi Handi celebrations, according to data released by the police.
The action was carried out across the city’s seven police zones. Police also seized four pressure-mid devices and sound-system equipment comprising three mixers and six bass units.
Zone 1 accounted for the seizure of all four pressure-mid devices. Police registered one BNS case and began prosecution proceedings in 55 matters in the zone.
In Zone 2, officers seized three mixers and six bass units, registered one BNS case and initiated prosecution proceedings in 23 matters.
The highest number of BNS cases was recorded in Zone 3, where eight offences were registered. Prosecution proceedings were also initiated in 10 matters.
No equipment seizures or BNS cases were reported in Zones 4, 5, 6 and 7. However, the police began prosecution proceedings in 27 matters in Zone 6 and one matter in Zone 7. No action was recorded in Zones 4 and 5.
Overall, the police data showed the seizure of four pressure-mid devices and nine sound-system components, registration of 10 BNS cases and the initiation of prosecution proceedings in 116 matters across Pune.
