No Helmet, No HSRP: These Were Pune’s Top Traffic Violations From April to August
Pune, 8th September 2026: Riding without a helmet and driving vehicles without high-security registration plates (HSRP) emerged as the most common violations detected during Pune’s road safety enforcement drives between April and August, with more than 2,600 cases recorded for each offence.
The city’s Road Safety Squad and flying squads booked 2,623 motorists for riding without helmets, while 2,631 vehicles were penalised for not displaying HSRP plates during the five-month period.
Enforcement against vehicles without HSRP plates intensified sharply in July and August. While only 15 cases were recorded in April, followed by seven in May and six in June, the number jumped to 1,524 cases in July and 1,107 in August.
The data also highlights a high number of violations involving mandatory vehicle documents. As many as 2,222 vehicles were penalised for not having valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates, while 1,809 vehicles were found to have invalid insurance.
Meanwhile, enforcement against overspeeding remained relatively low after a brief spike in April. The squads booked 78 vehicles using speed guns in April, with only a negligible number of cases recorded during the following four months.
As part of stop operations, 1,739 vehicles were detained during the period.
The enforcement drive also covered several other road safety violations. Action was taken against 1,141 vehicles without reflectors, while 838 cases involving overloaded goods vehicles or shorts were recorded. The squads also registered 703 driving licence-related violations, 592 permit violations, 541 seatbelt violations and 473 cases of motorists using mobile phones while driving.
Other violations included 453 cases of triple-seat riding, 328 cases of improper parking, and 109 cases of signal jumping and lane cutting.
The enforcement figures indicate that basic safety violations and non-compliance with mandatory vehicle requirements continue to account for a substantial share of road safety violations detected across Pune.
