Pune: PCMC Contractor Issued Notice Over Alleged Worker Safety Lapses at New Administrative Building
Pimpri Chinchwad, 9th September 2026: Serious lapses in worker safety have been reported at the construction site of the new administrative building of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), with labourers allegedly working at height without mandatory safety equipment.
The issue came to light after the lack of safety measures for workers on the upper floors of the under-construction building were highlighted. Taking note of the report, the PCMC Town Planning Department has issued a notice to the concerned contractor and sought an explanation.
A large number of workers are engaged in the construction of the high-rise building. However, workers on the upper floors were reportedly seen working without safety harnesses, helmets, safety belts and other essential personal protective equipment. Officials have raised concerns that any lapse while working at such heights could result in a serious or fatal accident.
The latest incident has raised questions over whether adequate safety standards are being enforced at civic construction projects. Several accidents have been reported at PCMC-related sites in the past.
The possibility of a serious accident cannot be ruled out if workers continue to operate without proper protective equipment. Following the issue being brought to light, K.M.V. Projects Limited has been directed to submit an explanation by Monday.
Interestingly, while K.M.V. Projects Limited is the contractor named in the project documents, sources said the actual construction work at the site is being carried out by another contractor. This has also raised questions over responsibility for ensuring worker safety at the site.
