Pune-Kokan Ganeshotsav Travel: Toll Waiver Announced, Here’s Where To Get The Pass

Pune, 10th September 2026: The Maharashtra government has announced a toll waiver for vehicles carrying Ganesh devotees to Konkan, offering some relief to the thousands of people who travel home during the festival.

The toll exemption will be available from September 11 to September 27, 2026, covering the peak Ganeshotsav travel period. The waiver will apply on the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway (NH-48), Mumbai-Goa National Highway (NH-66), other PWD and MSRDC roads leading towards Konkan, and the Atal Setu.

However, travellers will need a special pass or sticker to avail themselves of the exemption. The pass, marked “Ganeshotsav 2026 Konkan Darshan,” will carry the vehicle registration number and the driver’s name.

For those travelling from Pune, the pass can be obtained free of cost from police stations, traffic police posts and RTO offices. Travellers are required to ensure that the pass is displayed on their vehicle while travelling towards Konkan.

Importantly, the same pass will remain valid for the return journey, meaning travellers can use it when coming back from Konkan after the celebrations.

The toll waiver will not be restricted to private vehicles. MSRTC buses travelling towards Konkan for Ganeshotsav will also be eligible for the exemption, with arrangements being made for the required passes.

Every year, large numbers of residents from Pune, Mumbai, Thane and other parts of Maharashtra travel to their ancestral villages in Konkan for Ganeshotsav. With the festival beginning on September 14 this year, the government has introduced the toll waiver as part of arrangements to make the annual journey more affordable and manageable.

For Pune travellers heading towards Konkan, getting the ‘Konkan Darshan’ pass before starting the journey will therefore be important to ensure a hassle-free toll-free trip.
