Pune Mosquito Menace: PMC Issues 2,231 Notices, Recovers Rs 4.46 Lakh In Fines
Pune, 11th September 2026: With mosquito breeding increasing during the monsoon and the risk of dengue, chikungunya and malaria rising, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) health department has intensified mosquito control measures across the city.
The civic body is conducting regular inspections to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites. Biological insecticides are being sprayed at identified sites, while fogging is being carried out in affected areas.
So far, the PMC has issued notices to 2,231 people after mosquito breeding sites were found on their premises and has recovered more than ₹4.46 lakh in fines.
To strengthen mosquito control operations, the PMC is providing dedicated vehicles to all 15 regional offices. Each vehicle will be accompanied by five contractual workers who will inspect areas, identify breeding sites and carry out insecticide spraying and fogging.
“Vehicles have already been provided to 10 regional offices along with contractual staff. The remaining five offices will be provided with vehicles and staff within a week,” said Dr Rajesh Dighe, Assistant Health Officer, PMC.
The civic body has also increased manpower for mosquito control during the monsoon, particularly in the newly merged villages. Officials have been directed to remove stagnant water from residential and public areas, ensure proper drainage and eliminate other potential breeding sites.
The PMC is also using guppy fish as a biological method to control mosquito larvae and has directed all regional offices to maintain adequate stocks of insecticides.
The health department has instructed officials to coordinate with the encroachment, solid waste management, drainage and building departments while taking action against mosquito breeding sites. Coordination with private and government institutions has also been emphasised.
Awareness campaigns will also be conducted in residential societies, schools and colleges to educate citizens about preventive measures against mosquito-borne diseases.
