Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Police Book 5.72L Violations, Impose Rs 63.78cr Fine This Year
Pimpri Chinchwad, 23rd September 2026: The traffic police have booked 5,72,018 violations across Pimpri Chinchwad so far this year and imposed fines totalling Rs 63.78 crore, as part of a crackdown on traffic rule violations.
The highest number of cases — 72,123 — were registered against motorists for riding without helmets, followed by 53,840 cases involving fancy number plates. Police also booked 27,597 cases for using black films on vehicle windows and 10,203 cases for modified silencers.
The drive is being carried out on the orders of police commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey and under the guidance of joint commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar and additional commissioner Sarang Awad.
Despite repeated awareness drives urging motorists to wear helmets and seatbelts, follow traffic signals and adhere to speed limits, violations continue, police said.
Traffic police have also started action against vehicle owners illegally displaying logos such as ‘MLA’, ‘Member of Legislative Assembly’ and the Ashoka emblem. Action was taken under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act against violators last week.
Deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Vikrant Deshmukh urged motorists to follow traffic rules and said citizens could report traffic congestion, regulation issues and other traffic-related problems through the Traffic Buddy WhatsApp chatbot at 8788649885.
Police have also recorded 6,876 cases related to suspension of driving licences, according to the traffic branch.
