Pune: Doctors Booked Over Loud Music During Ganeshotsav Celebration at YCM Hospital Pimpri

Pimpri, 23rd September 2026: The Sant Tukaram Nagar police have registered a case against six members of the Ganesh mandal at Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital and the owner of a brass band for allegedly playing music in a designated silence zone on the hospital premises.
The incident took place at around 4:15 pm on September 22, when musical instruments were allegedly played at the hospital without prior permission. The Ganesh mandal’s president and vice-president, both doctors, are among those named in the FIR.
Senior Police Inspector Sagar Avhad said the music was played despite the hospital being a silence zone and an order prohibiting such activity being in force from September 16 to September 22.
“The music was played at around 4:15 pm on the hospital premises without prior permission. The complaint states that those involved were aware that the sound could disturb patients. Playing musical instruments at the premises was in violation of the order that was in force during this period,” Inspector Avhad said.
The accused named in the FIR are PGI Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital Ganesh Mandal president Dr Ujjwala Sumedh Andurkar, working president Savita Nivrutti Nigade, vice-president Dr Shailaja Manoj Bhavsar, secretary Amardeep Mohan Chandgude and treasurer Vaibhav Janardhan Devkar.
The FIR also names Onkar Athav, identified by police as the owner of New Mayur Brass Band.
According to police, the case has been registered under Sections 221, 223 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023; Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951; and Rule 6 of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.
Police action followed a video of the incident being shared on Facebook by Advocate Ashok Bhagwan Dhaygude, accompanied by a sarcastic comment referring to the hospital and the municipal corporation.
The police are conducting further investigation into the case.
