Pune Wins Bid To Host 2032 UCI Road World Championships
Pune, 24th September 2026: Pune has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2032 UCI Road World Championships, making India the first country in the world’s most populous nation to stage the prestigious cycling event. Pune had made a late bid for the championships and was competing against Groningen and the Drenthe region of the Netherlands.
UCI president David Lappartient announced the decision, saying both bids were “very, very solid” and that the organisers had found suitable solutions for the two events.
The UCI Road World Championships have traditionally been held in Western Europe, with Canada becoming the first host outside Europe in 1974. The event was later held in the US, Japan and Qatar.
Rwanda hosted the championships in 2025, becoming the first African nation to stage the event, while Abu Dhabi in the UAE is set to host the 2028 edition. India will become the fourth Asian country to host the Road Worlds.
