Pune: Bank Strike From Sept 28 May Disrupt Physical Banking, Sunday Opening Planned To Ease Disruption
Pune, 25th September 2026: Offline banking services, including cheque clearing and manual RTGS transactions, are likely to be affected in Pune during the three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30.
With festival holidays this week and the following weekend, physical banking services could remain disrupted for five days. However, the finance ministry has directed nationalised banks to keep branches open on Sunday, September 27, to minimise the impact.
Cheque clearance and other transactions requiring physical banking may face delays during the period. Customers and businesses relying on cash or cheque-based payments may need to reschedule transactions.
Banking employee unions are demanding a five-day working week and performance-linked incentives.
The strike is unlikely to affect salary payments significantly in Pune’s manufacturing and IT sectors. Manufacturing companies generally process salary payments between the third and seventh of each month, while several IT firms schedule month-end salary payments in advance.
