Pune Metro Records 48.32 Lakh Passengers During Ganeshotsav 2026, Earns Rs 7.49 Crore in 12 Days

Pune, 26th September 2026: Pune Metro recorded more than 48.32 lakh passenger journeys and generated revenue of ₹7.49 crore during the 12-day Ganeshotsav period from September 14 to 25, 2026, according to Maha Metro.
The metro service witnessed a further surge on Anant Chaturdashi, when 5,80,280 passengers travelled between 6 am on September 25 and 6 am on September 26. The service generated revenue of ₹85.61 lakh during these 24 hours, as thousands of devotees used the metro to reach immersion procession routes and return home.
According to Maha Metro, a total of 48,32,915 passengers travelled on Pune Metro during the 12-day period, generating revenue of ₹7,49,28,377.
Pune Metro Passenger Numbers Rise 30% in One Year
Pune Metro has recorded a substantial increase in passenger numbers during Ganeshotsav over the past two years.
In 2024, the metro carried 20,45,100 passengers during the festival period. The figure rose to 37,17,578 in 2025 and reached 48,32,915 in 2026.
This represents a 29.99% increase in passenger numbers compared with 2025 and a 136.32% increase compared with 2024, according to figures released by Maha Metro.
PCMC-Swargate Corridor Records Highest Ridership
The PCMC-Swargate corridor (Line 1) recorded 25,15,516 passenger journeys and revenue of ₹4,17,46,626 during the 12-day period.
The Vanaz-Ramwadi corridor (Line 2) recorded 23,17,399 passenger journeys, generating revenue of ₹3,31,81,751.
The District Court interchange station facilitated 10,39,452 passenger interchanges during Ganeshotsav. During the 24-hour immersion period alone, 1,22,552 passengers used the interchange facility to switch between the two metro corridors.
Mahatma Phule Mandai Busiest Metro Station During Ganeshotsav
Mahatma Phule Mandai emerged as the busiest metro station during the Ganeshotsav period, recording 6,82,473 passenger journeys and revenue of ₹1,01,85,255.
The PCMC station ranked second, recording 4,72,658 passenger journeys and revenue of ₹99,69,849. Swargate ranked third with 4,35,489 passengers and revenue of ₹63,22,213.
Ramwadi station recorded 4,05,447 passenger journeys and revenue of ₹65,95,008, while PMC station registered 2,69,477 passengers and revenue of ₹37,46,161.
11 Metro Stations Record Over 20,000 Passengers on Immersion Day
During the 24-hour period covering Anant Chaturdashi, 11 metro stations each recorded more than 20,000 passenger journeys.
Mahatma Phule Mandai topped the list with 70,375 passengers and revenue of ₹9,46,235. Deccan Gymkhana followed with 64,938 passengers and revenue of ₹7,54,129, while Swargate recorded 48,906 passengers and revenue of ₹6,34,912.
PCMC station registered 43,491 passengers and revenue of ₹9,24,924, while Ramwadi recorded 37,894 passengers and revenue of ₹6,68,077. PMC station handled 36,588 passengers.
Vanaz recorded 30,686 passengers, followed by Nal Stop with 30,519 and Garware College with 26,832. Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Udyan station recorded 23,350 passengers, while Pune Railway Station registered 20,149 passenger journeys.
71% of Passengers Use Digital Ticketing
Digital ticketing accounted for 71% of tickets used during the 12-day festival period, while 29% of passengers purchased paper tickets.
Maha Metro also reported that 86% of passengers made payments through digital modes, including online payments, UPI and cards. The remaining 14% paid in cash.
Pune Metro Runs Services Round the Clock During Ganeshotsav
Maha Metro said it increased train frequency to every five minutes and operated services continuously for 24 hours during the festival to manage the increased passenger demand.
Medical facilities were also made available at Swargate, Mahatma Phule Mandai and Deccan Gymkhana stations to assist passengers amid heavy crowds.
Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maha Metro, said the large number of devotees using the metro during Ganeshotsav reflected their confidence in the public transport system.
He said increased train frequency, round-the-clock operations, station management and medical facilities helped make travel during the festival easier and safer. Hardikar also thanked Pune residents and visitors for prioritising public transport and making extensive use of digital ticketing.
