Pune: 23-Year-Old IT Engineer Dies by Suicide Four Months After Marriage; Husband, In-Laws Booked Over Dowry Harassment Allegations
Hadapsar, 27th September 2026: A 23-year-old IT engineer allegedly died by suicide at her home in Wadachiwadi, Pune, on September 24, four months after her marriage. Her family has alleged that she was being harassed by her husband and in-laws over a demand for ₹5 lakh to purchase a car.
The deceased has been identified as Vaishnavi Omkar Gisare, a resident of Vrindavan Society in Wadachiwadi. Based on a complaint filed by her father, Pravin Raghunath Jarande, 51, of Kodit Khurd in Purandar taluka, the Kale Padal Police have registered a case against her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law under the Dowry Prohibition Act and for alleged abetment of suicide.
The accused have been identified as her husband Omkar Sanjay Gisare, 28, father-in-law Sanjay Mahadev Gisare, 49, and mother-in-law Rupali Sanjay Gisare, 42. All three are residents of Vrindavan Society, Wadachiwadi.
According to the police, Vaishnavi married Omkar on May 9, 2026. Her family allegedly spent around ₹45 lakh on the wedding and gave her 10 tolas of gold. Her family has alleged that despite this, her husband and in-laws demanded ₹5 lakh from her parents to purchase a four-wheeler.
Vaishnavi initially stayed with her husband and in-laws after the marriage and later moved to Bengaluru for work. She returned to Pune towards the end of June and continued working from home, according to the complaint.
Her father has alleged that she was repeatedly subjected to mental and physical harassment by her husband and in-laws over the alleged demand.
According to her family, Vaishnavi spoke to her mother over the phone on the night of September 24 and told her about the alleged harassment at her matrimonial home. At around 11.30 pm, her husband also contacted her family by phone, they claimed.
The family later travelled to Pune after being unable to contact Vaishnavi and found that she had allegedly died by suicide at the residence.
Police have registered a case based on her father’s complaint and are investigating the allegations. The allegations against the accused have not been established in court.
Police Sub-Inspector Sandeep Raut is conducting further investigation.
