Pune: Fresh Accident on Mohammadwadi Road a Day After Candle March for Road Safety

Mohammadwadi, 27th September 2026: A person was injured after a four-wheeler collided with a two-wheeler on the Raheja Premiere–Lavanya Road stretch in Mohammadwadi on Sunday afternoon, bringing renewed attention to road safety concerns in the area.

The accident took place at around 4 pm. According to preliminary information, the four-wheeler was travelling at speed when it collided with the two-wheeler. The injured person was taken for medical treatment.

The exact circumstances leading to the collision have not yet been established. Police are expected to determine the role of factors such as speed, road conditions and traffic movement as part of the investigation.

The accident occurred a day after residents of Mohammadwadi and Undri, along with the family and friends of 20-year-old Hamza Sarkar, held a candle march at Raheja Vista Circle demanding safer roads in the area.

Hamza was killed in a road accident in Mohammadwadi on September 21. According to police information reported at the time, Hamza was travelling as a pillion rider with his friend Quais Wasim Khan on Shankarrao Ghule Patil Road when their motorcycle was allegedly hit from behind by a dumper while they were travelling from Lavanya Hotel Chowk towards Raheja Vista Chowk.

Hamza was trapped under the dumper’s rear wheels and died in the accident, while Khan suffered leg fractures. Police detained the dumper driver and began an investigation.

Residents raise road safety concerns

Hamza’s death led to concerns among residents over road safety, heavy-vehicle movement and the condition of roads connecting Mohammadwadi and Undri.

On Saturday, September 26, residents of Mohammadwadi and Undri, along with Hamza’s family and friends, participated in a candle march at Raheja Vista Circle. The march was organised by the Sikh Helpline Foundation and Undri Pisoli Forum.

Participants carried candles and photographs of Hamza and raised concerns over road conditions and traffic safety.

Residents have continued to flag concerns about the Raheja Premiere–Lavanya stretch, citing increasing traffic, construction activity and the movement of heavy vehicles. They have called for improved traffic management and concrete road-safety measures.

However, the exact cause of Sunday’s accident remains under investigation. Further findings are expected to establish whether speeding, road conditions, traffic movement or other factors contributed to the collision.
