Pune: PMC Medical Officer Demanded Rs 20 Lakh To Spare Private Hospital, Held Taking Rs 50,000
Pune, 28th September 2026: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday caught a medical officer of the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Nagar Road ward office red-handed while allegedly accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe from a doctor. The officer had allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh to refrain from taking action against a private hospital in Vishrantwadi.
The accused has been identified as Dr Dnyaneshwar Shivram Chakore, 50, a resident of Viman Nagar.
According to the ACB, the complaint was filed by a woman doctor who runs a private hospital in the Dhanori area. Chakore had been assigned to inquire into a complaint regarding alleged irregularities at the hospital.
On September 18, Chakore visited the hospital as part of the inquiry. During the investigation, he allegedly told the doctor that he would have to submit a report to senior medical officers and that the hospital’s registration could be cancelled if irregularities were found.
The ACB said Chakore allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh from the complainant to avoid action against the hospital. He had already accepted Rs 30,000 as the first instalment of the alleged bribe and subsequently asked the doctor to bring another Rs 50,000 to the Nagar Road ward office.
After receiving the complaint, ACB officials verified the allegations and laid a trap at the ward office on September 26. Chakore was allegedly caught accepting Rs 50,000.
A case was registered against him at Vishrantwadi police station under the Prevention of Corruption Act. He was produced before a court, which remanded him to police custody till September 29.
The operation was conducted by a team comprising deputy superintendents Neeta Misal and Satish Walke, head constables Pravin Taware, Ashwin Kumkar, Vanita Gore and Chandrakant Kadam, under the guidance of ACB superintendent Dr Shirish Sardeshpande and additional superintendent Ajit Patil.
