NCC Expansion in Maharashtra: DGNCC Reviews Training Facilities and Infrastructure Needs in Pune

Pune, 30th September 2026: Director General of the National Cadet Corps (DGNCC) Lt Gen Virendra Vats visited Group Headquarters NCC Pune on Wednesday to review ongoing initiatives, training infrastructure and expansion plans aimed at strengthening the organisation’s role in youth development and nation-building.

The visit focused on aligning NCC initiatives with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, with particular emphasis on youth empowerment, women’s participation, skill development, emerging technologies and social responsibility.

During the visit, Lt Gen Vats reviewed initiatives involving NCC cadets in the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme and the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. He also reviewed efforts to equip cadets with skills in emerging and critical areas, including drone technology, cybersecurity and disaster management.

Interacting with cadets attending a training camp, the DGNCC encouraged them to uphold the core values of discipline, leadership, selfless service and responsible citizenship. He emphasised the role of NCC cadets as young nation-builders and highlighted the need to equip them with future-ready technological skills while creating greater opportunities for women cadets under the national emphasis on Nari Shakti.

NCC Expansion and Infrastructure Requirements Discussed

During his interaction with officers of the Maharashtra Directorate, Lt Gen Vats discussed the ongoing expansion of NCC and various government schemes aimed at improving training opportunities and skill development for cadets. He stressed the importance of aligning NCC training with emerging technologies and evolving national requirements.

Maj Gen Vivek Tyagi, Additional Director General (ADG), NCC Maharashtra Directorate, was present during the visit. He reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to strengthening NCC activities through quality training, youth development and greater participation of cadets in nation-building initiatives.

The discussions also highlighted infrastructure requirements arising from the expansion of NCC activities across Maharashtra. In the absence of a dedicated academy for cadet training in the state, the Maharashtra Directorate has been exploring alternative arrangements to accommodate growing training requirements while maintaining appropriate standards.

Ahead of his scheduled interaction with the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, later this week, Lt Gen Vats was briefed on challenges relating to accommodation and other infrastructure requirements for NCC officers and Combatant Instructors across Maharashtra. The need for suitable facilities to support the organisation’s expanding activities was highlighted.

Maharashtra Girl Cadets Prepare for Republic Day Camp 2027

During the visit, Maj Gen Vivek Tyagi also interacted with girl cadets from across Maharashtra who are undergoing selection for the Republic Day Camp (RDC) 2027.

The RDC is a major milestone in a cadet’s NCC journey, providing selected cadets an opportunity to represent their respective directorates at the national level.

The Maharashtra Directorate has recorded notable achievements at the Republic Day Camp. According to the Directorate, its girl cadets have been adjudged All India Best Cadet for three consecutive years, with the awards presented by the Prime Minister at the annual Republic Day PM Rally in New Delhi.

The achievement reflects the participation and leadership of women cadets in NCC activities.

Lt Gen Vats commended NCC cadets from the Maharashtra Directorate for their achievements in various activities and events. He also appreciated the efforts of officers, staff and instructional personnel for their dedication to training and mentoring young people.

The visit reaffirmed the NCC’s focus on developing disciplined, skilled and socially responsible youth, with an emphasis on technology-oriented training, women’s empowerment, infrastructure development and the broader objective of contributing to Viksit Bharat @2047.
