Pune Electoral Roll: 13.32 Lakh Voters Issued Notices, Personal Hearings Not Required
Pune, 1st October 2026: As many as 13.32 lakh voters in Pune district who were issued notices during the ongoing revision of electoral rolls will not have to appear personally for hearings, following revised instructions from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Deputy District Election Officer Meenal Kalskar said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will collect the required documents from these voters and upload them on the designated portal. The documents will then be verified by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), who will take a decision on the inclusion of the voters’ names in the final electoral roll.
A total of 13,32,776 voters were issued notices after their details could not be mapped during the revision process or discrepancies were found in their names, addresses and other particulars. Hearings for these voters began on September 24.
The ECI, however, clarified on September 26 that voters who received such notices do not need to attend the hearings in person. Instead, BLOs will collect the necessary documents and complete the verification process.
Of the total voters issued notices, 7,54,597 could not be linked to the 2002 electoral roll. Kalskar said that if a voter’s details are not found in the 2002 roll, the person can submit valid proof of Indian citizenship. After verifying the documents, the authorities will decide whether the voter’s name can be included in the final electoral roll.
Deadline for claims and objections extended
The deadline for filing claims and objections to the draft electoral roll has been extended to October 12. Authorities will have until November 10 to dispose of the notices, claims and objections.
The final electoral roll for Maharashtra will be published on November 16, according to the revised schedule.
Officials said online hearings will be conducted only in exceptional cases.
