Pune, 2nd October 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Anandvan Foundation have joined hands for a plantation and replantation programme under which 6,500 new trees will be planted and 500 existing trees will be replanted on around seven hectares of land in Pune.

Anandvan Foundation has given its consent to the PMC to undertake the plantation and replantation work on land bearing Survey No. 18, which is under the Foundation’s supervision. The PMC will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the trees after plantation and replantation. The consent letter has also been marked to the Deputy Conservator of Forests, Pune.

The initiative is part of environmental mitigation measures associated with the proposed road link between GA Kulkarni Path and Karve Putala in Kothrud. The project is intended to improve internal connectivity in the area and ease traffic pressure on existing roads and junctions.

As part of the proposed project, some trees are expected to be affected, with suitable trees to be replanted and additional plantation undertaken at the identified site.

A senior PMC official said the proposed Karve Putala road link is aimed at improving internal connectivity in Kothrud and easing pressure on existing roads and junctions.

“As redevelopment and traffic increase, the additional route will help distribute local movement and improve last-mile connectivity. As Pune grows, infrastructure development and environmental responsibility must go hand in hand,” the official said.

The official also thanked the Anandvan Foundation for making the land available for the plantation and replantation programme.

“The availability of this land will allow the work to be undertaken in a planned manner. Equally important is the responsibility for maintaining these trees after they are planted, and PMC will continue to look after their upkeep,” the official said.

Bhupesh Sharma, Founder Secretary of Anandvan Foundation, said the Foundation was pleased to support the PMC by making the identified land available for the plantation and replantation initiative.

“We hope the initiative contributes meaningfully to Pune’s green cover and is sustained through proper long-term maintenance,” Sharma said.

The proposed road project comes amid significant redevelopment in Kothrud, which has contributed to increased population density and traffic. Several internal roads in the area were developed when traffic volumes were lower.

According to the PMC, the proposed connection is expected to provide an additional internal route and help distribute local traffic. It is also expected to complement the city’s expanding public transport network, including Pune Metro’s proposed Line 4A extension from Nal Stop towards Warje and Manik Baug.
