Pune, 3rd October 2026: The southwest monsoon began withdrawing from Pune on Friday, October 3, marking the beginning of the retreating phase of the four-month rainfall season in the city.

Weather scientists said the withdrawal from Pune and Mumbai is earlier than the normal date of October 5. The withdrawal process has also commenced from parts of Maharashtra, signalling the transition towards the post-monsoon period.

The withdrawal comes without a significant final spell of rainfall over the state, with Maharashtra ending the monsoon season with a rainfall deficit. However, isolated rainfall may continue in some parts of the region due to local weather conditions.

With the southwest monsoon retreating, rainfall activity over Pune is expected to gradually decrease in the coming days. Weather conditions are likely to transition towards the generally drier post-monsoon period.
