PMC Demolishes 21,000-Sq-Ft Illegal Building on Playground-Reserved Plot in Kharadi
Pune, 7th October 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Building Department demolished an unauthorised structure spread across approximately 21,000 square feet that had been constructed on a plot reserved for a playground in Kharadi. The civic body took the action after the construction continued despite repeated notices and previous demolition action.
The property is located at Survey No. 63 in Kharadi and is reserved for a playground. According to civic officials, construction had been initiated on the reserved plot without obtaining the required permissions. Following a complaint, the PMC Building Department had earlier taken action when the construction was at the plinth level.
However, despite the action, construction reportedly continued at the site. The civic authorities subsequently carried out action on two more occasions and stopped the work. Despite these measures, the construction was allegedly resumed again, prompting the PMC to demolish the entire structure.
Citizens have expressed concern over the repeated construction activity on the reserved plot despite action by the civic authorities. Allegations have also been raised that commercial shops and residential flats were being developed and sold at the site, raising concerns about possible financial losses to buyers.
“Action had earlier been taken when the construction was at the plinth level. After that, action was taken twice to stop the construction. However, construction was started again. Therefore, the entire building has now been demolished. There is a need to register criminal cases against those who repeatedly violate the rules in this manner,” said Pravin Shende.
The repeated construction on a plot reserved for a playground has raised questions about enforcement and whether stricter action will now be taken against those responsible. Citizens are awaiting clarity on whether the PMC will initiate criminal proceedings against the concerned persons.
