Pune, 8th October 2026: Veteran actor Nana Patekar, who died at the age of 75 on Thursday following a cardiac arrest in Goa, was known for his powerful performances and decades-long career in Hindi and Marathi cinema. But despite earning considerable wealth over a career spanning nearly five decades, Patekar was often described as someone who preferred a relatively simple lifestyle.

According to reports, Patekar was found unconscious at his home in Dona Paula, Goa, at around 4 am on Thursday. He was rushed to a private hospital, where he was declared dead at 5:20 am, according to Dr Shekhar Salkar. His mortal remains were taken to Pune after the post-mortem, with his last rites scheduled to be performed with state honours at 4 pm at his farmhouse.

Nana Patekar’s estimated net worth
Various reports have estimated Patekar’s net worth at between Rs 60 crore and Rs 80 crore. The figures are media estimates and have not been independently confirmed.

Much of his wealth came from his long career in films, particularly his work in Hindi and Marathi cinema. In recent years, he was reportedly charging around Rs 2-3 crore per film, although remuneration could vary depending on the project and his role.

Despite his financial success, Patekar’s lifestyle was notably understated compared with that of several other prominent actors in the industry.

A modest Mumbai home
One of the most frequently cited examples of Patekar’s simple lifestyle was his home in Mumbai.

According to media reports, the actor spent much of his life in a one-bedroom apartment in Andheri, spread across approximately 750 square feet. The property was reportedly purchased decades ago for around Rs 1.1 lakh and is now estimated to be worth around Rs 3 crore.

Patekar lived in the apartment with his mother until her death and later continued to live there alone.

In interviews over the years, Patekar had spoken about his attachment to his modest home and indicated that he did not feel the need for a larger or more luxurious residence.

For an actor who had spent decades in one of India’s biggest film industries, the choice reflected a personality that often appeared detached from the trappings of celebrity.

His Goa home
Patekar also owned a home in Goa, where he spent considerable time.
Unlike his old Mumbai apartment, the Goa property was reportedly more modern and contemporary. The actor divided his time between Mumbai, Goa and Pune, making all three places important parts of his life.

It was at his Dona Paula residence in Goa that he was found unconscious early Thursday morning before being taken to hospital.

The Pune farmhouse spread across 27 acres
Patekar also had a significant connection with Pune, including a large farmhouse near Khadakwasla.

According to reports, the property was spread across approximately 27 acres and included seven rooms and a large hall. Agricultural activity was also carried out on the land, with wheat and rice reportedly cultivated there.

The produce was sold across Maharashtra, while income generated from the farm was reportedly distributed among farm workers and local farmers.

Patekar also owned another property in Pune on Law College Road.
His association with farming and rural life stood in contrast to the conventional image of a Bollywood celebrity surrounded by luxury.
His work for drought-hit farmers

Patekar’s connection with rural Maharashtra was not limited to agriculture.

He was also known for his efforts to support farmers and families affected by drought.

In 2015, amid a severe drought in parts of Maharashtra, Patekar reportedly extended financial assistance to affected families. He personally distributed cheques of Rs 15,000 each to more than 100 families in regions including Latur and Vidarbha, according to reports.

His humanitarian work became another important part of his public image, particularly at a time when farmer distress and rural indebtedness were major issues in Maharashtra.

Wealth without a celebrity lifestyle
Patekar’s career brought him fame, awards and substantial financial success, but his personal choices often remained relatively modest.
His old one-bedroom Mumbai apartment, his association with farming and his reported support for rural communities contributed to an image very different from the stereotypical Bollywood lifestyle.

His properties in Mumbai, Goa and Pune represented different aspects of his life — the city where his acting career took shape, the coastal home where he spent considerable time, and the Pune farmhouse connected with agriculture and his final rites.

Nana Patekar’s death closes a remarkable chapter in Indian cinema. Beyond his memorable performances, his life story — from financial hardship and theatre to becoming one of India’s most respected actors — was also marked by an unusual combination of professional success, personal simplicity and a continuing connection with ordinary people.
