Veteran Actor Nana Patekar Dies at 75 in Goa; Police To Begin Inquiry Into His Death.
Panaji, Goa, 9th October 2026: Veteran actor Nana Patekar, 75, passed away in Goa on Thursday morning. Authorities have opened proceedings to examine the circumstances surrounding his death, with a medical examination expected to establish the cause.
The actor’s death was reported after he was taken to Manipal Hospital from his home in Dona Paula. Hospital authorities alerted the police, following which officers recorded the matter and began the required formalities.
Police said they received information from the hospital shortly after 8 am. The actor had been brought to the medical facility without signs of life.
Following the hospital’s communication, police officers inspected the situation, spoke to the treating doctor and informed senior officials. A case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which deals with inquiries into certain categories of deaths.
Officials indicated that early indications point towards a possible cardiac event, but stressed that no conclusion can be drawn until the post-mortem examination is complete. The medical report is expected to provide clarity on what led to the actor’s death.
Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital said Patekar had contacted a friend in the early hours of Thursday, saying he was not feeling well. The friend reportedly reached the actor’s home around 4 am and found him in visible distress.
An ambulance was called soon after. Emergency responders attempted revival measures at the residence before moving Patekar to the hospital, where he was declared dead at 5.20 am.
The hospital said it did not have details about any prior heart-related illness or medication. Police said the inquiry will continue and that all further findings will depend on the medical examination.
