Pune, 10th October 2026: More than 40,000 people are expected to participate in the Pune Run for Unity 2026, scheduled to be held in Pune on November 1. The event will feature five race categories, including a half marathon, and offer cash prizes worth more than Rs 10 lakh to competitive runners.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, the event’s chief organiser, said more than 20,000 registrations had been received so far. The event aims to promote national integration, physical fitness and a drug-free lifestyle, particularly among young people.
The run is being organised in connection with National Unity Day, observed on October 31 to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and a key figure in the country’s integration.
Mohol said the Pune Run for Unity was intended to bring together people from different sections of society through sport and encourage citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles.
Five race categories planned
The Pune Run for Unity 2026 will feature five categories: a 21-km half marathon, a competitive 10-mile run, a competitive 10-km run, a 5-km fun run, and a 3-km family and beginners’ run.
The organisers have announced cash prizes totalling more than Rs 10 lakh across the competitive categories. Eligible male and female runners will receive prizes in accordance with the competition rules.
The event is expected to attract professional athletes, students, young people, women, senior citizens, corporate employees, representatives of various organisations and families. Participants from India and abroad are also expected to take part.
Last year’s event drew over 25,000 participants

International runners from countries including Kenya and Ethiopia, along with prominent Indian athletes, participated in last year’s event.
Building on that response, the organisers have set a target of attracting more than 40,000 participants this year.

Drug-free youth campaign to be a key focus
This year’s event will be held under the theme ‘Drug-Free Youth – Developed India 2026’, with a focus on raising awareness about substance abuse among young people.
The initiative seeks to encourage youth to stay away from addiction and embrace sports, exercise, discipline and healthy living. The organisers said the campaign would also promote self-confidence, health awareness and greater participation among young people in nation-building.
Mohol said the initiative aligned with the broader ideas of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ and ‘Viksit Bharat’ and aimed to strengthen national unity through public participation.
“National integration, social harmony and a healthy lifestyle are central to this initiative. We want to expand Pune’s sporting culture and connect citizens from all sections of society with the fitness movement. It is particularly important to encourage young people to stay away from addiction and turn towards sports, exercise and a positive lifestyle,” Mohol said.
He also appealed to Pune residents to participate in large numbers, including with their families.
