Pune, 12th October 2026: The Chakan traffic police registered 49,248 offences and collected Rs 6.39 crore in fines between January and September 2026, stepping up action against motorists violating traffic rules amid growing congestion in the industrial belt.
The fine collection increased by Rs 1.39 crore compared with the Rs 4.99 crore collected between January and October 2025, when 39,549 offences were registered. The police have targeted violations including driving on the wrong side, jumping signals, driving without a licence and unauthorised passenger transport by autorickshaws and buses.
Chakan’s expanding industrial belt, increasing urbanisation and heavy vehicle movement have added to traffic pressure in the area. The police said enforcement had been intensified alongside traffic management measures to curb congestion caused by inadequate road infrastructure and motorists flouting rules.
Action against unlicensed drivers has also increased, with offences rising from 1,115 in 2025 to 1,616 in the first nine months of 2026. The fines collected from such violations rose from Rs 59.30 lakh to Rs 87.05 lakh.
Cases against autorickshaws carrying passengers in violation of rules increased from 1,553 to 4,077, while offences involving buses rose from 1,606 to 2,422. Cases involving heavy vehicles increased from 7,239 to 8,838.
The police also recorded 10,005 offences involving the use of mobile phones while driving, 15,507 cases of two-wheeler riders driving without helmets and 1,875 cases of motorists travelling without seatbelts.
Senior police inspector Deepak Gosavi of the Chakan traffic division said the police had stepped up action against undisciplined motorists alongside traffic planning measures. He urged citizens to follow traffic rules, avoid penalties and cooperate with the authorities in improving traffic management.
