Pune: Police Register FIR Against Two SPPU Students After Girls Protest Over Hostel Incident
Pune, 13th October 2026: Chatushrungi police have registered a case against two students of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), who are now suspended by the university administration, for allegedly trespassing into the girls’ hostel and misbehaving with a woman student.
The accused have been identified as Pramod Rathod and Omkar Gore, both students of the university’s department of education and residents of boys’ hostels on the campus.
According to police, the two entered the girls’ hostel around 11pm on October 1, despite entry being prohibited for male students. They allegedly questioned a woman student about why she was outside the hostel at night and whether her parents knew about it. They also allegedly entered the hostel office without authorisation and argued with staff.
University security guard Sampat Patil (51) lodged a complaint, following which police registered a case under Section 329(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for alleged criminal trespass.
The incident triggered protests by women students, who staged a sit-in at Chatushrungi police station on Monday morning, demanding strict action. They also submitted a representation to the vice-chancellor.
The university administration subsequently suspended the accused students’ access to their academic department and hostel. The hostel warden also reportedly resigned, taking responsibility for the incident. Police Sub-Inspector Umesh Koli is investigating the case.
