Pune, 13th October 2026: The regional transport department has found violations in 37 of the 134 private vehicles registered outside Maharashtra and inspected in Pune and its surrounding areas between October 5 and 12. Three vehicles were detained and fines totalling Rs 21,000 were collected as part of a special drive that will continue until October 17.

The drive targets private vehicles registered in other states but regularly used in Maharashtra. Officials are verifying registration details, motor vehicle tax payments and other mandatory documents.

Under Section 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, vehicles registered in another state but used in Maharashtra for more than a year must be re-registered in the state, with the prescribed motor vehicle tax paid. Vehicle owners must also comply with the relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

The Pune Regional Transport Office has urged vehicle owners to keep their registration, tax payments and other documents up to date and cooperate with officials during inspections.
