Pune: Constable Suspended for ‘Objectionable’ Instagram Comment on Newspaper Report
Pune, 15th October 2026: A police constable posted at the Pune police headquarters has been suspended for allegedly making objectionable, inflammatory and irresponsible remarks on Instagram in response to a newspaper report.
Constable Samadhan Abhiman Gaikwad, attached to B Company at the police headquarters, has been placed under suspension pending an inquiry. The order was issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (headquarter) P. R. Patil.
The action follows a comment Gaikwad allegedly posted on his Instagram account in response to a news report published on a newspaper’s website under the headline, ‘Leader Eliminated; Attacked with Sticks and Stones’.
According to the suspension order, the constable’s remarks were objectionable and inflammatory, allegedly endorsing violence and acts that violate the law. The order stated that such conduct was inappropriate for a member of the disciplined police force responsible for maintaining law and order, and had tarnished the department’s image among the public.
Action has been initiated under the relevant provisions of the Mumbai Police (Punishments and Appeals) Rules, 1956, and the Maharashtra Police Act.
During the suspension period, Gaikwad will be required to report regularly to the Reserve Police Inspector at the headquarters. The order also states that no leave will be granted during the suspension period.
