Pune, 16th October 2026: Divisional Commissioner and Electoral Roll Observer Sheetal Teli-Ugale has directed officials to complete all work under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Pune district by October 31, 2026.
She issued the directions during a review meeting held at the Pune Collectorate to assess the progress of the SIR exercise. She instructed Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to closely monitor Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and ensure that the work is completed accurately and within the stipulated deadline.
Teli-Ugale stressed the need to resolve discrepancies in voter records, complete voter mapping and carefully verify documents before deleting any names from electoral rolls.
The meeting was attended by Pune Collector Jitendra Dudi, Joint Commissioner and Nodal Officer Sanjeev Palande, Pune Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner and Additional District Election Officer Omprakash Divte, Deputy District Election Officer Minal Kalaskar, and EROs and AEROs from across the district.
Under the SIR programme, Electoral Roll Observers will visit each district in the division at three stages: during the period for filing claims and objections, during the disposal of claims and objections, and at the time of final publication of the electoral rolls. Teli-Ugale reviewed the progress of the exercise in Pune district as part of this process.
Collector Dudi presented an overview of the work completed in the district. He also informed officials that special camps would be held at polling stations on October 17, 18, 24 and 25, which fall on Saturdays and Sundays, to accelerate the revision process. He directed officials to ensure that as much work as possible is completed during these camps.
Awareness Drive for Maharashtra Legislative Council Polls
Teli-Ugale also directed officials to conduct an awareness campaign to prevent votes from being declared invalid in the Pune Division Teachers’ and Graduates’ constituencies of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, where polling is scheduled for October 23, 2026.
She asked officials to print posters explaining the correct voting procedure and display them at polling stations. The information should also be disseminated through social media to educate voters on how to cast a valid vote.
She further instructed officials to scrutinise the electoral rolls for the Teachers’ and Graduates’ constituencies to identify duplicate entries.
Voters whose names appear in two places should be informed and asked to submit a written declaration specifying the polling station at which they intend to vote.
