Pune, 17th October 2026: Night temperatures in Pune have dropped below 19°C, bringing a noticeable chill after a spell of warmer nights earlier this month. The minimum temperature at Shivajinagar fell to 18.4°C on Thursday before edging up to 18.9°C on Friday, while the National Defence Academy (NDA) recorded a lower minimum of 17.3°C on Friday.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, minimum temperatures in Shivajinagar had remained above 21°C on several nights during the first half of October, reaching 22.5°C on October 2. Although the mercury briefly dipped below 20°C on October 4, it rose again before declining over the past few days.

IMD scientist S D Sanap attributed the recent drop to clear skies and lower humidity, which allow the ground to lose heat more rapidly after sunset.

However, the respite may be temporary. Easterly winds bringing moisture from the Bay of Bengal are expected to push minimum temperatures up by 1°C to 2°C over the next two to three days, Sanap said.

He said it was too early to determine whether the dip marked the onset of winter-like conditions or would lead to a further significant fall in night temperatures. A clearer picture of the seasonal transition is expected to emerge around mid-November, when longer-term weather trends become evident.

Meanwhile, Pune is likely to see a sharp contrast between warm days and cooler nights over the weekend and early next week. The IMD forecast indicates mainly clear skies, with maximum temperatures expected to reach 35°C on Saturday and 36°C on Sunday and Monday. Minimum temperatures are likely to remain around 19°C to 20°C.
